Made this post in the random chat, but figured I'd make a thread out of it so as not to flood the chats with my spleen updates. {Warning... Splenectomy aftermath pic} The truly gnarly scar is actually what's under the gauze. There are two clear incisions that are sealed up, which is where they put in the tools to take out the spleen. There is a small incision right above my bellybutton where the camera was inserted. Under the gauze is the larger incision where the spleen was removed, plus, a hole in my side that was draining fluids from the surgery for two days. Pic was taken while the tube was still inside. There was about two feet of tube that they yanked out.

when will you find out if the spleen had a tumor in it or not? and if it was cancerous or not?

I think in a couple of weeks. Right now they're focusing on getting my blood levels from the thinners back to where they normally are.

As for now, the main thing bothering me is this damn headache. Won't go away unless I'm up and energetic. When it's time to lay down or wake up it comes back strong. I'm not sure why, but maybe it's because of the sleep pattern. I haven't slept for more than a few straight hours after surgery, plus, I can't lay on my stomach to sleep, which is how I always do it.

Were you under the impression I'd be getting it back? It's yours! After they do their lab testing and what not, it should be shipped back to you. You should be able to put it on the mantel, give it loving caresses on a drunken Saturday night, buy a spleen stuffie to keep it company etc. etc. Is there no basic human decency and morals in modern western culture anymore!?

I agree the spleen should be returned. Someone else may be turning a buck off of removed organs and cutting the previous owners out its outrageous I tell you!

The surgical glue on the major incision is wearing off little by little every day. Bleeds a little more every day. Have a follow up appointment on Tuesday. Gonna ask the surgeon what to do about it. That incision is the primary setback. Have to let it heal before I go back to exercise and stuff, because one bad move and the sucker can tear open and I'm stuck at the beginning again.

Don't rush it just chill awhile. Listen to some Jim Croce.

They shaved the hair around my stomach, though. Feelin good. Eased my way into a couple of exercises today. Mainly just poked around my routine to see how I felt. Only thing I can't do are pull ups. Everything else was great. Only thing I got worry about at this point is just not doing anything to open the big scar, which is healing nicely. Hopefully I'll be back to daily activities within 2 weeks or so.

Thank ya. Definitely doing better. Feel normal again. Just gotta let this incision heal up more before I'm back to 100%. All is good.

Hopefully the last update. Had this weird bubble problem after surgery when breathing. Every time I'd breathe (only when lying on my back) I'd feel this weird bubbling on the left side of my ribs. Told the nurses while staying at the hospital, they thought nothing of it, said it should pass with time. Probably just a gas bubble. I thought nothing of it, either. It only happened when I was lying on my back, and it never even hurt, plus I had this same exact thing happen a couple of years back and it eventually solved itself. All the way from the surgery to just about a week ago, it was still there. Only difference was I started chewing minty gum again. Once I started that, the bubbling while breathing completely went away, and instead a pretty significant pain in my solar plexus area occurred. For days it wouldn't go away, and the pain would only let up when I would exercise. Kept waking up in the middle of the night a few nights in a row. Didn't feel good at all throughout the duration of it. Friday the pain shifted to the middle of my back. Saturday I just felt horrible, but I pushed through and went to the gym and had a more rigorous workout than normal. Felt way better. Pain is almost completely gone. That's been the only complication after surgery so far, that I know of. Scars are healing just fine, staying in shape, enjoying life.
