So really what it involves would likely be to hire someone to be a tech-support guy all the time for us... I only ask because a game I play (Tycoon Online) the guy has his own servers and it makes keeping things going pretty easy. Didn't know it might take so much maintainance. We need some cash for a server, and to send it to our most technologically inclined person with a commitment to the site. It may not take a lot (definitely some, though). For again mine is for a company, there could be all kinds of things tied to it or associated to our server that I don't even know of. Thus it requires a good degree of maintainance. Where as the HMF one will only be running the site. Still, definitely not as easy as say purchasing a piece of software and pressing the install button.

I guess it's a bit optimistic to think we can eliminate the middleman entirely by trying to cut out Globat or any other such server maintainance group/business. It'd be more troublesome if we did get it all on a server of our own and then we struggled royally to maintain it and had it offline for weeks. BUT if we did have someone who could keep it working, one would hope that having to run a message board, newsblog, and wiki would be easy enough. Troublesome.
