I know, you all dislike proboards. But the truth is, it's far more professional than almost any other forum host.
Sure, they have their rules and guidelines and it limits your freedom a bit to curse and such. But I almost never encounter a glitch with proboards.

You can disable the cursing and such. There isn't any real problem with proboards. There just isn't much exciting with it. What are you trying to say Jason, that we should abandon HMF in favour of HMFC?

Haha. No. Not at all, Seb. I'm not saying abandom HMF at all. If Globat, or whatever it's called, keeps acting up like this to where we won't even know if we'll get our forum back we should do something else. If anything, create HMF with ProBoards. I've onl tried to get some of you guys to my forum as well, not to abandon it.

I was just kidding with you, mate. I think that what we are most worried about is losing the 4 years worth of great posts, although I think many of us like the style we have at HMF. It's not so much that we don't like proboards, but it doesn't seem very distinct. Bit dull and basic.

There's so much you can do with your main page forum, boards posts, mini profiles, avatars and other things. Just look at the difference between the main support board and my board. support.proboards.comjasonfreak.proboards.com

Yeah, I can see that there is room for changes to it (room I haven't really bothered with on here) but I think we've all ultimately grown a bit too fond of HMF as it is, and we've seen countless proboards like this one, yours, and others. They each have some things to offer, but I think they ulitmately look a bit too similar. Though as I said, the big thing I think for us is to not have to start all over again. We have done too much with the message board as it is to just let it go away.

I don't know if they really can persist in this problem. It should be a pretty straightforward fix. They've got the resources no doubt to fix the problem. We've paid them to do so afterall. Basically, I just can't see this continuing endlessly.

Lets hope not. They have the tools to fix it and it's been over 4 days now.

They are persistenly annoying little fucks, but I still think that they will sort it out in the end. I think that if we continue to have problems until this weekend, we should all get onto Globat and report this as gross customer negligence though.

True. I read Foo's chat with the staff at Globat and saw his review. Seems they eat away at your account if you don't reply their emails. Yikes

That e-mail scam they try to pull is pretty bad. Ultimately what really bugs me is that it does look like they are inclined to leave our site alone unless Foo is actually ontop of them. You'd think they'd want to just get it fixed and have that be that.

That's what I'm saying. Why pay Globat for their services when they treat you like scum and steal money?

If we knew in the first year what we know now, I think everyone would have been happy to look elsewhere for another host. But now it's a bit tough to just thrash our history. And moving the board seems to be a very difficult task that would likely cost a lot of money.

I'm trying to figure out if it wouldn't be possible to try and buy a server. Is that not something we could use? Looking around (shopping around a bit) it seems that with between 300 to 12000 dollars you can get all kinds of servers with several terrabytes possible storage, several gigs of memory, etc etc. An HMF scrap-around might accomplish a lot that way. And I'm with Reign, what it really amounts to now is that we have too much invested to just abandon ship. If we can find a way to transfer what we have, we'd do it happily, but we aren't about ot just start over from scratch.

He tries to be colorful with his insults. They probably like that. I think he needs to dumb it down so they get bored of him calling in.

Problem is you still need someone with the knowledge and expertise to maintain that server. I'm not a computer expert and don't know if this will even apply, but we have our own server at work that services like 300 people, and one of our MIS dudes is constantly dealing with server issues. Easily takes up half of his job responsibilities.

So really what it involves would likely be to hire someone to be a tech-support guy all the time for us... I only ask because a game I play (Tycoon Online) the guy has his own servers and it makes keeping things going pretty easy. Didn't know it might take so much maintainance. We need some cash for a server, and to send it to our most technologically inclined person with a commitment to the site.
