"Broncos break off Von Miller contract talks".
I hope they don't keep fucking around with this. It's not Von's fault Miami are fucking stupid and overpaid for Suh. He's earned to be the best paid defensive dude in the league, pay the man.

We have 36 dollars in cap space. Might have to wait until next year.

They''ve agreed on the structure (6 years, 114.5 million) but it looks like Elway doesn't want to guarantee the third year. 40 million total in guarantees is a lowball for Von. The guarantees in 2018 only kick in if he isn't injured, aka not guaranteed. Ben Allbright says 55 million in guarantees for the first three years gets this done. This should finish pretty soon.

Agreed, shit is only gonna get worse every year, sign this now and watch him outshine all these fools making similar money and those making more after. Especially after losing some key pieces to our D, don't fuck with THE piece, pay him a smidge over Suh and move on.

This whole thing was pretty damn funny. And it was also big of Brady to do his part. {Spoiler}Still happy he got suspended, though.

6 years, 114.5 million dollars. 70 million dollars guaranteed.
Elway tried to hardline our franchise player and in response Von and his agent absolutely took him to the cleaners. Probably ended up paying more than he had to, but pissing off Von probably set the bar even higher. Oh well, glad Von is going to be a Bronco for the remainder of his prime. But no question, Elway bungled this one.

Seems fine to me. Before talks even began between Von and Elway regarding a contract, Von was going around saying "Money talks, right?" Then says there's no chance he plays on a tender deal and he'd sit out an entire season until he gets the deal he wants.
He was always gonna be paid.

Then says there's no chance he plays on a tender deal and he'd sit out an entire season until he gets the deal he wants. He was always gonna be paid. Of course he was always going to be paid. But because Elway dicked around, lowballed him and kept leaking offers to the media to make Von look greedy (which Von admitted he was not at all a fan of), this dragged out until the bitter end and Von was able to squeeze every last penny out of Elway. Not to mention dicking around so long meant waiting until after Fletcher Cox got paid to reset the guaranteed money market. If Elway had made a fair offer from the outset (39 million was insulting), team would have saved a little coin and the relationship between the two wouldn't have gotten to this point. Elway needs to understand in the future that some guys are going to be more receptive to eating shit sandwiches than others. Harris and Wolfe were cool with it. They have no real reason to be, but they're just wired differently than most guys. A guy like Von won't be.

I don't know if I give much steam to the "leaking articles to make Von look greedy" jab. Our cap is murder this year, and if you remember we were in limbo forever with Kaepernick's measly 11 million. It's not easy to open up the wallet and spend away, especially for a conservative like Elway. We have one of the best and most versatile defensive players in the entire league with murderous pass rushing ability. We already know Von is a spender and is also going to be utilizing some of this money for his Von's Vision foundation and among other projects. Locking him down was priority number one and we did it at a pretty fair shake for both sides. Von could've easily refused any offer, collected a 14 million dollar check and just waited until next year when the cost to keep him would be even higher.

Those are the negotiating tactics the Broncos used throughout this process, and it upset Von. Not commentary, reality. They did it multiple times. And our cap really isn't that bad this year, we'll still have a little money left for emergency signings in camp when Von's deal is done. There was always going to be enough room for Von, his cap number was going to be 14-15 million no matter what because of all the cash he would get up front. Beyond this year, we have a loooot of cap space next year and beyond. The cap can be manipulated so easily, it's really not something that's a concern. Trust me, the cap wasn't even a factor in this. 70 million dollars guaranteed is not fair for both sides, it's a great deal for Von though. For Elway, he had to bite the bullet because of his hard line tactics. It never had to get to 65 million, even. Elway's ego pushed it there.

Von Miller's contract breakdown by year:
2016: 5.83 million (5.83 guaranteed) 2017: 20.83 million (21.83 guaranteed) 2018: 22.83 million (22.83 guaranteed) 2019: 21.33 million (12.83 guaranteed) 2020: 21.83 million (3.83 guaranteed) 2021: 21.83 million (3.83 guaranteed)
Denver now has a lot of cap room available this year to extend Emmanuel Sanders. 2020 and 2021 easily voided.
