Watched the original a few days ago. Been a good ten years probably. Watching the remake now. Haven't seen that one in at least five years or so. Figured I'd make a thread.

I prefer the remake. This isn't to say the remake is great, just that I think the original was pretty damn poor that the remake didn't have to do a whole lot to be better. My favorite Amityville Horror movie is II: The Posession.

Original for its nostalgic value.

I'm going original with a comfortable lead. I wasn't overwhelmed by the original. It felt like it was capitalizing off The Exorcist a bit while the remake was trying to capitalize off The Ring. Jodie appearances felt like she came straight from the ring. Remake focused more on family conflict than the original did, which I think was kind of unnecessary and took away from the horror elements of the film. You only got 90 minutes to work with. Hated the priest in the remake. The original used far less jump scares, and while the remake didn't really use all that much, they were easily predictable. Jump scares are useless when you see them coming. Plus I'm just a way bigger fan of the gritty style of the way 70s horror flicks were made as opposed to the 2000s.

I voted for the original, but I liked them both.
I am with D, though. I love part 2. I bet Reign does too because of the whole incest angle. I need to buy it.

I have the first three and the remake. Only saw the ones in the poll. Might check out II and 3D tonight.

Original for me. I found the remake to be forgettable. I do enjoy a good 1-3 AH marathon every so often.
