The more I read the less I want to deal with the headache of creating a website seems like a total pain in the dick to have a nice one. All the easy ones look worse than proboards maybe it would be easier to pay someone or let dream and her man do it.

They are revamping wowbb.com so is that the reason the old site went down or was it Globat?

I just want to at least attempt to save the old board before just dumping it and starting new.

1. Find a host that: - is not gonna censor you - shut you down because some third party makes a claim - doesn't shut you down for your database size - doesn't shut you down for using up too many server resources for search functions - doesn't shut you down because of spam bots - does not play games with support (charge you additional for reasonably prompt service when you have a problem, extort you into paying them to fix an error you did not create)
2. Find forum software - make sure it is compatible with the host - make sure it has good, fast support - make sure it has enough customers to stay alive so the support continues
3. Transfer domain to new host and install forum

Transfer domain to new host and install forum that is one of the things I'm running into issues with in looking up forum software. Most want to charge extra for tech support. I've still been looking at SMF (Simple Machines Forum) as a forum option. The downside is no traditional tech support, it's all community oriented. The plus side is it's free and the community seems active, so it's unlikely to go anywhere any time soon. The only other one I've seen that has the longevity and none of the shitty extra fees for things that should come with the software was phpBB Hosts....I don't wanna fucking look at anymore hosts. I've been having to do that for work and I swear to god if I get another shitty free host shoved in front of me to research I'm gonna flip out. I will happily research forum software though!

Good list Foo. So let's divide that up, someone research hosts that isn't Dream, Dream research forum software etc, and let's take it from there.
Sounds a plan.

Hostgator seems to be a concensus pick for quality and tech support and I've read loooooooooooots of reviews. I need to find out more about forum software myself though. And the actual design part is intimidating.

The only other one I've seen that has the longevity and none of the shitty extra fees for things that should come with the software was phpBB [/quote] I really like the look of that phpbb software. It is very clean and much more of a modern look that what we did have at the old HMF. I read somewhere that one gripe was most of the setups on that software had a large banner at the top. We always had banners so I think something with D's artwork in a large space up top would be a bonus! Another that they compared the phpbb to was Lefora. But the Lefora is more outdated and doesn't even support smartphones. Most of us will read HMF that way on the go. I like that option. Plus the phpbb has pretty much everything we had on the old board as far as options. www.forum-software.org/forum-comparator/lefora-vs-phpbb3I think that phpbb3 is the latest version I'm guessing.

And the actual design part is intimidating. Two things that worry me about Hostgator. EIG now owns them. The same that have censored Bluehost sites. EIG owns globat too. I would be afraid the service being the same. Man, seems like one person likes a host and another bitches on a review. Hard to sift through the muck! Siteground maybe? Good Crap! One host seemed amazing but I think that is one that the millionaires use. Liquid something or other.

One host seemed amazing but I think that is one that the millionaires use. Liquid something or other. That has been my issue with researching hosts. For every good review there is an equally bad review. Then it doesn't help that one lady on the board is like "well, I heard good things about *host* can't we just go with them?" I look up the host and find about 12 reasons why we shouldn't go with them and at least as many reviews bashing them, give them to her. She then sends me a link with ten "good" free hosts (that offer shit for services and no domain name on some of them, which means you have to be name.hostname.com which is ridiculous. I gave her my opinion on the hosts I've found so far and whatever the board tells me to do I will do to the best of my ability. We're currently with Powweb and if we have to switch, I want to switch to Bravenet. Whether they take my advice and stick with powweb or go to bravenet, or do something completely against my own thoughts remains to be seen. ...website hosting research has become my arch nemesis...
