It was a great season, but no corner will ever do what Champ did in 06. Absolutely, his season was compared to Champs 2006. Champ might be the GOAT. Is GOAT. He locked down everybody for so many years. Everybody. He was a sure tackler. Something you can't say about most corners in this league. Deion was a god awful tackler.

It was a great season, but no corner will ever do what Champ did in 06. He did say one of the most. And to be fair, the defenses were so different. Champ played in more of a zone, off-coverage role compared to our corners now which lends itself to more interceptions. 2014 Harris and 2016 Talib is about as dominant as it gets for man corners. Champ was in 1-on-1 for most downs.

It does look like straight man most of the time though.

Deion brought a lot of other shit to the game though. But yeah, horrible tackler and he gave up on plays when I watched him. Didn't see that with Champ or Woodson.

Deion is underrated because people care too much about his tackling. He was a shutdown cover corner, who cares?

I actually got Rod Woodson at #2 behind Champ.

Deion is underrated because people care too much about his tackling. He was a shutdown cover corner, who cares? Underrated? 98% of people call Deion the best corner ever. He was a great shut down corner, but it was easier to play corner in that era. He is still top 5 easy, though.

I actually think it's kind of a disservice to Champ's 2006 season to say he was just a man corner. He played kind of a unique safety/corner hybrid role that let him attack the run and bait QBs,

I remember Deion's battles with Jerry Rice. Some great stuff but Deion usually had the upper hand. Guy was such an unbelievable competitor.

Honestly, Ed Reed is the best defensive back I've ever seen.

Champ was in 1-on-1 for most downs. Not really. It was mostly an off-man coverage with Champ responsible for a huge zone on his side of the field. It does look like straight man most of the time though. That is exactly what makes Champ the greatest corner ever. If you can find film, you will notice that Champ reads the QB on every play, even as he's descending into coverage downfield. I have seen Champ break coverage on so many balls to come in and intercept a slant pass in the middle of the field. The dude was a brilliant football player. It was known back then that QBs didn't even look Champ's way most of the game. I watched Champ in, I think, 2010 completely ignore his assignment and rush the quarterback from the blind side and get a sack that wasn't even designed for him to run. Of course the QB didn't see him (lol). He is a pretty distant #1 corner, imo. He could literally do it all, and was great at every single aspect.

Need corner help to stack the box against Herschel Walker? Deion ain't gonna be there. lol.

He was the best cover guy of the 90s, it was not his job to be an asset in run support.

Imagine how many picks a guy like Aqib Talib gets if he was given the freedom Champ was. Talib is the best playmaking DB of his era but playing like 80% man limits your turnover opportunities.

Ed Reed is the GOAT safety. Tigg should agree. Ronnie Lott, B-Dawk and Steve Atwater. I don't have a #1 safety. Lott's the only safety close to Reed but imo it isn't even that close. Ed Reed was the perfect safety. Did everything at the highest possible level. Atwater and Dawkins weren't as complete of players.
