Am also ok with cloud vs site. Know too little about cloud aside from how to recognize it under IAS 11. Nothing different on the user end, just on the host end. Basically, the site's not just on one server somewhere, it's linked to several, so if one goes down, another picks up the slack.

. One problem for me could be hostgator not providing the option to fiddle with design and layout coding. Another problem could be the coding in a completely different language than what I'm accustomed to. As far as outlook goes, I'd imagine we'd want to keep at least a similar look to what we've gone with over the years, and having the red/blue option again would be nice, but we could very easily be stuck with our only option being fiddling with colors and shit. Do we get avatars? Siggies? Just something else to consider before jumping right in. That isn't hostgator. That is phpBB and you can customize that. You select the general layout and then can put in different headers etc. Do we really want it to look exactly the same again? Weren't we trying to get the look updated with that Aussie tattoo guy just a little while ago but that fell through. This would be the perfect time to update it. Snazz it up with some of D's gorgeous work! It's a forum board of course you can do avatars and siggies. BD has a customized phpBB now. If you are worried about that just go peek. Avatars and siggies all over.

You talking about springing for the business plan? No, I was talking about cloud hosting, which I linked to above and will link again here. Or www.hostgator.com/cloud-hosting since this site sucks using words as links. How many CPU cores and GBs do you reckon we'd need? Reading suggests it's likely at the lower end unless I'm missing the maths? The reai issue is I don't know about this single v unlimited domain.

Also I can confirm for Slaughter that embedded word hyperlinks on a phone just look like the word.

It seems like the cheapest is actually enough. I don't think unlimited domains was what I thought it was. Unless we want to go buy a d register stuff like hmfans.com or other variations? Just a guess. Trafficwose it doesn't sound like we'd need that much early on for our needs but I can't get a definitive answer there.

How many CPU cores and GBs do you reckon we'd need? Reading suggests it's likely at the lower end unless I'm missing the maths? The reai issue is I don't know about this single v unlimited domain. This being a message board, it doesn't need much. Most reviews are basing hosts on being for a business, so alot of it is unnecessary for HMF. Unless you want to make several sites, one domain is all you need. The "unlimited" domains thing is if you want to host multiple sites with the same account. Also, this was just a suggestion because I know downtime was a major issue with globat and cloud hosting would reduce that. If it's too much of a headache to add in another "unknown", then just stick with the web hosting. Pretty much.

Then the smallest package for either sounds sufficient. Cloud has scaleability if we suddenly find ourselves as the next Bloody Disgusting.

With the cloud, will that be a problem with data usage? Global was always encouraging me to trim down our database. Apparently it would use a lot of data when the search function was used.

It doesn't seem to be an issue fton what I'm reading. Sufficient memory to be able to have queries etc. could be wrong though.

Why? You never let me in the 12 years you footed the bill, no matter how much I insisted, and now that you'll barely be on the site? No need, my good man. HOWEVER, all these other motherfuckers! I keed. It makes me feel like a contributor even if I am not there as much. I also realize that life, including our finances, has many ups and downs and it is sometimes nice to have another person the help shoulder the load. Alright, we'll split it. Would never deny your contributions to something you help found.

It says it's "unmetered" bandwidth, so it shouldn't be an issue. If you're talking RAM, then the 2GB package should be fine given past numbers of active users on the site.

Didn't even catch you linked it into the word last night and whatever page I was on for those host gator plans had nothing for cloud hosting. I'll look into it more but I have no initial qualms especially if it comes rec'd by you.
