Completely against not somehow saving the history. Apparently it's just not possible, I don't know. Cheers.

I don't want to lose the history as much as anyone, but I don't think any of us really know how to save it to begin with. We've been lost out to sea on this buoy for awhile now and don't think we are any closer to solving that problem. Probably is time to bite the bullet and start solidifying the direction for the future.

Agreed. Maybe break what we need to do in steps to make this huge task easier? I think most of us want to help but are a bit lost when it comes to these kind of things. Maybe we can make a list of the stuff we need to do to get this rolling? For example 1) Decide on what we want included on new site (we really should have that nailed down before we go to the new server site to set up) 2) Brainstorm companies to go with 3) Contact companies to go with 4) Get with Foo to give info to company that is needed Where are the list people at? We need you! I've got a few weeks of time now. In about four weeks I'm going to be nose down in a book for 8 weeks again.

It is like when someone with terminal cancer chooses to be frozen. I have some concerns about saving the PMs though. Not sure how I feel about someone cracking into those at some point.

PMs were wiped out completely on New Year's Day in 2014 or 2015 weren't they? We've really only got two years of PMs at the most on there.
I can absolutely understand the concern, though. In my PMs, the biggest concern would be an exchange in addresses, but I don't think that's a very big deal.
I wish I had even an inkling of understanding as far as how all this works.

We can start the fuck over, I don't give a shit, I just wanna go home. Kinda my feelings. How much time can we take to worry about saving the past instead of building a future? This

That is comforting. I don't have a problem with that.

I took that pic like a year ago, when HMF was still in existence. Blue Label is fantastic, though.

Bumping thread seeing as how we have new found vigor and interest. I will try to find the thread where Dream and D talked about some of the options they found.

I know jack about message boards. I just know I came across HMF and loved it. Proboards, IMDb etc. not so much. So I am trusting in more capable souls like Dream, D, Jason etc. to show us the way. I say it's time to narrow down options, pick the one that seems the most HMF-like in features and shiz, gives us the freedom HMF did, and give it a go. We hate it, try another. Hopefully we can get free trials before ol' money bags (Foo, myself, whoever wants to contribute) has to commit. Like Slaughter mentioned, and as we all should know, all too often we do a big rallying cry for something and then nothing happens. We can't let that happen here, as I see us slowly dying staying here. And obviously we are getting no growth, just treading water while actually losing members. It's time for Viva La Revolution!
I'm also fine with Dream and Mark trying to restore the old board. I have made peace with the fact that my old love is dead and gone forever, so if they destroy something beautiful, so be it.

If she and Mark can try it, go for it. I wouldn't have the faintest clue as to how to go about saving the old one.
Question: if it can be saved, are we still stuck with Globat?

IMO, if it can be saved, it is for viewing as a historical log only. We all know how archaic the board is in general, and we can't hitch our future to that, and sure as hell not Globat. Even if we get out from under Globat, I can't see supporting that board for the foreseeable future.

Honestly, what is hurting this the most is trying to hang onto the old board. IMO, every effort put into doing that at this point is effort that should be put towards making the new HMF all it can be.
It would be like having the entire iPhone developmental team working on making the iPhone 3 better instead of the iPhone 8.
We patched up the old board and kept it alive as long as we could. I can say with 99.9% certainty that none of us possess anywhere near the technical acumen to bring it back.

Basically, we can get a new puppy or we can dig up the old dog who died last year and try to give it mouth to snout and see what happens.
