Reviving as well. Fun fact I learned yesterday, Metallica has a studio cat that hangs around. It has six toes on one paw, and they named it Tabs I know this because James was holding her as they showed a snippet from their new album. Well, he had Tabs press the button to push play, lol. It's on their website and you have to be signed up to have seen it, but what little was there sounded pretty cool. The guitar riffing reminded me of early 80's stuff.

Using Channel 2, putting the Gain at 6, Treble at 6 and Mid at 6, I get a pretty hellish crunch. Bass was left at around 3, but I liked that the first three knobs are at 666

Before I go experimenting, is it safe to plug a standard pedal with speaker cables? Basically, I get a lousy hiss on my distortion channel now with this new cable that I needed to use the simulated output. I would normally get rid of the hiss by having my noise suppressor hooked up through the instrument cable chain, but I want to know if it's safe to run it through the speaker cables? I do know it's the cable because if I touch it, the hiss goes away, but i can't play and hold the cable at the same time, and it is a new cable that was recommended.

Nevermind, tried it and when the noise suppresor was on, it cut off all sound Went through the traditional way and everything seems fine now. Must've been a fluke.

While I am dialing in a rhythm sound I'm comfortable with for this track, I'm still not finding myself ready to record. Still too many slips, string feedback from strings that aren't even struck (I have small fingers, so I very well could be not arching my fingers properly across the fretboard) and shit. Oddly, the amp setting I'm finding the most...clear...for lack of a better word for distortion, is the Mark IIC setting, rather than the Mark IV or Extreme...which sound mushy. Especially the Extreme setting.

Decided to speed up my practice for when I plan on doing leads, I inserted the ascending climax of the Tornado of Souls guitar solo into my routine. My left hand hates me right now.

My right hand seems to be fine, unless I were to try to focus on alternate picking. I'm better at just letting it fly whichever way is comfortable, imo. Too much alternate picking and you sound like a robot

Did some revisiting of St. Anger today at work, and I swear that guitar tone gets worse with every listen. It was like Metallica made it a challenge to make a Rectifier sound like flatulent shit.

The only bearable part of St. Anger from me is this part. youtu.be/dwZuFexTy0k?t=1m33sBut even then, the garbage-band drumming from Lars is total crap.

There are things I like on the album, Frantic is almost a good song overall, same with Shoot Me Again, and in retrospect it was still better than the other hardrock/metal I was getting dished out at the time (I wouldn't hear The Blessed Hellride until later, other than that, we were stuck with Linkin Park, Nickelback, Incubus, Puddle Of Mud, and Shitknot...ugh) 2001-2003 was a dark time and not in a good way

Think I'm just going to rerecord the bass tracks. It's a pain in the ass trying to sync up with the bass when I can barely hear it. Going to just delete the bass track, keep my basic drum track for click tracking and record fresh.

Laid down a track for the lead melody I'm finally happy with. Still need to work out fills and the main solo, but the bulk is actually down pretty good. I'm also realizing that unless I dedicated full time to practice, I'm never going to be the rhythm guitarist I want to be, lol. Repeated playbacks tell me this

Repeated playbacks tell me this My drummer keeps writing riffs that I cannot play. It pisses me off. He has only been playing for a year and a half, and he is writing Disposable Heroes type riffs. All of the songs I write for the band are 3 chords and a cloud of dust. Lol
