1. Friday the 13th part 4 ( the perfect slasher) 2. Bay of Blood (proto-slasher: the template of the genre) 3. Halloween (kicked off the golden age of slashers) 4. Maniac (never have we gone do deep into the slasher mind) 5. The Burning (that amazing raft sequence and ahead of its time makeup for killer) 6. Madman (practically a companion piece to The Burning) 7. Alone in the Dark (when character actors attack!!!) 8. Bloody Birthday (great killer kids slasher) 9. Friday the 13th part 3. (Fundamentally sound, and one of the best looking slashers of the era) 10. Return to Horror High (high concept for its time) Foo dropped some serious knowledge in his list and I say it's a reason for everyone to put a list up who hasn't.

ohh, you mean the trap thing? they did have a set up for that, but fair enough i guess. Yeah, but keep in mind, she made all of those traps, along with putting her drunk mother to bed, and fell asleep all within something like 15 minutes or so. I always thought that time-frame was a bit iffy. Same with Hills Have Eyes, Last Houston the Left, etc. Every suburbanite can set effective booby traps when placed under enough pressure.

ohh, you mean the trap thing? they did have a set up for that, but fair enough i guess. Everything. The whole end became a cluster fuck of random shit. Bring him into the real world, booby traps, then rendering him powerless by ignoring him, and then the tacked on endings. At the point where Nancy made him flesh and blood, ignoring him made no sense at all. he'd gone into into the dream world again, by then. or at least that's how i took when he and nancy's mom sunk into the bed and such.

I do agree with the sentiment that Friday The 13th: The Final Chapter is the perfect slasher. It's everything the sub-genre should and aspire to be.

I do agree with the sentiment that Friday The 13th: The Final Chapter is the perfect slasher. It's everything the sub-genre should and aspire to be. It's missing an element that I rather enjoy, being the mystery of who is behind the killing. While most slashers that try this fail, there are a few that stand out as doing it well (in my opinion), being the original My Bloody Valentine. While I've not posted my list yet, My Bloody Valentine will be above Friday the 13th Part IV. Not to say Friday the 13th Part IV isn't good - it is. It's a fantastic movie. But still, I prefer some well-done mystery when possible. Just my thought.

But Friday IV was executed better than any slasher I've ever seen. The humor was actually funny, not to mention hilarious. It was able to tackle elements of the history of the Friday franchise while still implementing a completely new approach to the story. Great soundtrack, incredible kills, deep characters, fantastic story, perfect setting. It could be my actual favorite horror movie.

I dont' think it's even missing that supplement. I mean, we know who the killer is, but there's a few spots that could leave noobs guessing (Rob is a good red herring, for example) and there are plenty of shots where Jason is shot mysteriously until the last 3rd or so (you know, when shit really starts hitting the fan). Sure, it's not a complete mystery, but I don't think the element doesn't exist.
One of the thing that bugs me about the trend that 6 started is that is drops any mystery/suspense killing.

I thought that My Bloody Valentine also had some great kills and good suspense, deeper characters, and an amazing setting, certainly unique. No doubt, Friday the 13th Part IV is an amazing movie, though.

Boot shots are underrated in slasher cinema. Friday had a lot of that.

As excellent as the kills are in Final Chapter, my favorite slasher movie kill comes from part III, where handstand boy gets the split.

Hard to pick one kill from that franchise. That one is certainly a frontrunner though.

Then Final Chapter gets a treasure trove filled with:
Bonesaw/headtwist Knife through the back of the neck (great FXwork) harpoon gun stabbed into nuts, lifted out of water, then pulls the trigger Corkscrew in hand plus meat cleaver to the face Shower head crush and Jason's epic machete to head trick.
